Welcome to La Voz del Anciano
La Voz del Anciano is the only bilingual/bicultural non-profit organization in the Dallas area whose primary focus is serving the needs of an estimated Latino elderly population of more than 50,000. Located in the heart of inner-city Dallas, in Oak Cliff, Our mission is to promote and facilitate the well-being of the Latino elderly in Dallas County through education and access to community and social services.
Historically, the Latino elderly (defined as age 55 or over) have been an underserved population in Dallas County. Due to their limited English language and literacy skills, the Latino elderly have been neglected in the delivery of health, welfare and other social service programs by governmental entities. As a result, this rapidly growing segment of Dallas Countys population has remained at the lower socio-economic fringes of one of Texas largest cities.
LVDA implements its mission through an Executive Director, two paid staff, and a cadre of volunteers by implementing the following programs:
Service Referrals and Case Management, assessing individual and family needs, determining eligibility, and working with governmental service providers to address the needs of those who meet eligibility criteria. Emergency assistance in the form of food and clothing is also made available to those in need.
Educational Presentations and Study Circles, proactively inform elderly residents about available services and enhance their knowledge about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, disease prevention, Medicare and Medicaid programs, and Medicare Part D enrollment.
Community Forums, are held in different locations throughout the City of Dallas to inform residents about topics as diverse as home repair, elderly abuse, elderly employment, financial management, living wills and trusts, and to provide fellowship and entertainment.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, provides support group sessions to advise and assist grandparents who have become head-of-household providers for grandchildren.
La Voz Quarterly Newsletter, is mailed to over 2300 senior residents with information about community events, advice on healthy living, financial management, and other timely topics to improve the quality of their lives.
Advocacy for the Elderly, serving as a key communications link with governmental entities to gain public and community support in addressing the needs of the Latino elderly of Dallas County
